Email Marketing - A Powerful Tool for Your Business

One of the great ways to connect and engage with your customers is to use social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. However, people claim that email marketing is no longer effective and relevant due to the success of social media.

Stop listening to them as they are just misconceptions. Email marketing lives on and works well as one of the most effective and powerful techniques for online marketing and staying in touch with your customers.

Definition of email marketing

You need to know what email marketing is first of all, before moving on to the reasons why it is so useful in business.

When a person visits your website and thinks about subscribing to your mailing list with the goal of keeping in touch with you through email, it is known as email marketing. A mailing list like this is very important if you sell a service or product. Email marketing enables you to build customer loyalty, gain trust, and promote brand awareness, while encouraging your subscribers to buy from you more often.

Email marketing has several benefits. Although it is a great marketing tool, however, unfortunately, it seems to get a bad rap with some companies that don't fully understand it.

Some companies feel that people immediately consider looking for an email from a stranger and delete it, thinking badly of their company.

This may be true to some extent, mainly because companies haven't taken the time to nurture their list. However, with responsible marketing, you can make an email marketing campaign work exceptionally well for your business.

Email marketing vs. social media marketing

As explained above, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter are great ways to connect with existing and potential customers. They are ideal platforms for word of mouth advertising, creating a strong bond with your current audience and putting yourself in front of a new audience.

Both tools are necessary for your business. However, you cannot control who sees your updates or when they are seen.

Other than this, you cannot control these connections completely as social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook keep making changes without notifying how they might affect the way you connect with your followers.

Social networking sites do not give you the opportunity to connect people one on one as you can connect through emails. Through email marketing, you can fine-tune your promotional campaigns, while building a list of people who show a genuine interest in what you are offering.

With Twitter, for example, your message competes with hundreds or even thousands of other Tweets from companies promoting products or services similar to yours. The same is true on Facebook.

Even if you have a large number of fans, they are certainly following other pages as well, reducing the effect of your message. The same goes for emails, but by sending a personalized email, you can get their attention as they would actually open and read your email. Distractions present on social media, including recent status updates, chat options, and new photos, are not present in email marketing.

Therefore, it is important that you make an effort and transform your followers on your email marketing list as soon as possible. Once this is done, you have full control and authority as they are in YOUR contacts list. You will lose them only if they choose to unsubscribe from your email list.
